Today's Daily Devotional continues our discussion of being exploited when in a vulnerable position. Using Scripture to manipulate unsuspecting individuals is one tactic used by cults to attract members. The key distinction between cult leaders (false profits) and genuine prophets of God lies in the accuracy of their interpretation of Scripture. It should be "non-profit" rather than "for profit"! Cult leaders will twist the meaning of passages to serve their hidden agendas and personal gain. They exploit naïve people who are not well-versed in Scripture.

It is essential to have the freedom to ask any pastor or leader of legitimate solemn assembly questions regarding their interpretation of Scripture. The Bible encourages us to "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." (2 Timothy 4:2). While this verse is often used to emphasize the importance of preaching the Word from a pulpit, it also highlights the significance of being prepared to interpret Scripture and use it lovingly to correct others who may be at risk of wrongdoing. A pastor or spiritual leader should always be equipped to exegesis the passages they use in their teaching.

The process of exegesis involves carefully analyzing the five Ws: who (the speaker), what (the subject), where (the location), when, and why. It is crucial to understand who was speaking and their intended audience. We must also consider the subject matter addressed during the time the passage was written, the location, the timing, and the reason for its inclusion. Was it a law or a response to a specific situation? By seeking answers to these questions, the interpretation of the passage becomes clearer, and your eyes will wake up to the Truth. It is indeed a process that leads to enlightenment. As Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). What are your thoughts?
