Have you ever wondered why Law enforcement officers sometimes wear a bulletproof vests? You probably know why, but why does the vest protect a certain area? The area that is protected is where the heart and lungs are located! Your heart is where the life in the body begins. The oxygen and blood flow from the heart throughout the entire body. Like in the natural body; in the Spiritual realm the Word is your life, and it's hidden in your heart! The lungs are where the air supply (support from the Holy Spirit) comes from. The Bible says “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” John 7:38.
One of the top priorities of our Lord and Savior was to have fellowship with us and here He is speaking to the Disciples about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells in everyone who receives Jesus as Lord. What He feeds off of is the Word of God which is hidden in our hearts. King David said,” Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:11. This bulletproof vest is the breastplate of righteousness, and this piece of the armor is extremely vital; because it protects where the Word of God is stored!
Righteousness is being in the right relationship with Jesus Christ. It's being in the right standards with Him. It's doing things in a way that the Lord is well pleased with us! It's displaying the character of Jesus Christ, and that only comes from the Word that is hidden there, praise God! Notice that there is no protection behind you with the vest. The reason is that you never run away from the devil! The reason is because you are equipped for battle and have the greater one on the inside to defeat the enemy and his minions. “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.” Ephesians 6:14.
