Wonderful Counselor

While there may be many counselors in the world, none can compare to the brilliance and wisdom of our Messiah, Jesus Christ.

This December, we're embarking on a special spiritual journey centered around the true reason for the season – our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ! Join us as we delve into daily devotionals dedicated to exploring the life, teachings, and profound love of Jesus.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).

In today's Daily Devotional, we will continue our discussion on the power of the greatest name, Jesus Christ. As a pastor, I have often referred to the prophecy in Isaiah that describes some of the attributes of the King of Kings. Isaiah is often referred to as the evangelical prophet because he speaks extensively about the coming of Jesus Christ, more than any other prophet in the Old Testament. The Bible states, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).

Indeed, this passage is a Messianic prophecy, specifically referring to the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The description of His name begins with "Wonderful Counselor." It is important to note that it does not say "a" wonderful counselor, as there is none like Him. While there may be many counselors in the world, none can compare to the brilliance and wisdom of our Messiah, Jesus Christ. Regardless of the number of doctorates or degrees a person may possess, only Jesus is truly all-knowing and possesses perfect wisdom. Isaiah further emphasizes this by stating, "The mighty God." While the enemy may possess some level of might, God is almighty, surpassing any power or strength that exists.

Without the power of Christ, represented by His Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we are vulnerable to the attacks of the devil and his minions. Operating independently of the greatest power leaves us susceptible to defeat. The prophet Isaiah describes Jesus Christ as "The everlasting Father," highlighting that He is a Father unlike any other. While everyone in this world has an earthly father, there will come a day, unless Jesus returns to Rapture the Church, when we will be separated from our earthly fathers.

Even if our earthly fathers were unable to prevent our passing from this life, we can find comfort in knowing that the Lord will take us up. As the sweet psalmist of Israel and great king David expressed, "When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up" (Psalm 27:10). Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will delve further into this topic. What are your thoughts?
