Why Should I Honor Someone Who was Never There for Me?

Should children raised in single-parent households honor both parents? What does the bible say?

For the entire month of October, the daily devotionals will focus on the topic of #honor. What does it mean and how can you show honor to the people in your life? Stay connected to learn more.

"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." II Timothy 3:15

Honor: October 2

Some of us have been blessed to have wonderful parents. A mom and dad that practiced good morals and raised us with them. Some of us were even reared in the Church by our parents. Our parents lived by a high standard and held us to them! “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou outset to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the Church of the Living God.” II Timothy 3:15.

Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world and everyone has not been blessed with good parents. As a matter of fact, some people weren't raised by their parents at all. Some parents have abandoned their children, putting them up for adoption, or having someone else raise them. If a parent dies, they have left you and at some point, a parent will not have a say in when they will pass. “And as it is appointed once for men to die, but after this the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27.

Over half the children in this country are raised in single-parent households. I venture to say that when you see athletes saying “Hi mom,” it's a good chance she was the authoritative voice in the house. Regardless of the fact that you might've been reared by one parent or both; they're both to be honored. Why should I honor someone who was never there for me? Because the Holy Bible says so and it's to your advantage to do so. ”Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with a promise” Ephesians 6:1-2.

Tune in tomorrow to learn how. What are your thoughts?
