” Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” Romans 13:1

Honor: October 22, 2022, By Dr. George Bing

Did you ever wonder why we were supposed to stand up when certain people entered a room? It's not that I was bothered by it, but why only certain people were honored in that way? Obviously, as we mature in life, we realize that everyone should be honored, but some people are honored on a higher level. “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.” Proverbs 3:27.

When the President walks into a room everyone comes to their feet. When most Government officials come into a room everyone present in that room comes to their feet. Even when a Government Official is called to the podium everyone present is summoned to stand up. When a judge walks into a courtroom, we are to come to our feet. The Robe that the Judge is wearing represents authority. You will hear the bailiff say, “All rise!” and it’s spoken with total authority and everyone immediately stands! The reason being is because of the authority that they have been given. A judge has major decisions that they must make on behalf of people who have a case against someone.

The judge has taken an oath to make just decisions without prejudice in a court of law. We stand up because we are showing respect for one who has the awesome responsibility of sending a person to prison or freeing them. Are they guilty or not guilty? How long a sentence should they be given? Should the case be thrown out or should there be a trial? The truth be told, rather we agree with them or not, the powers that be are ordained by God!” Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” Romans 13:1. What are your thoughts?
