Why Do People Lie?

"For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hidden, that shall not be known." Luke 12:2

Lying is something that most people despise, but everyone has done it. If you believe that you have not lied, you're deceiving yourself. The question posed is, why do people lie (Psalms 51:5)? People will lie to protect their image, and the truth be told, it's because of a fear of not being accepted by others. Some will lie because they are duped into believing that the consequences of the truth being exposed are too great, and yet again, it's the fear of having to deal with consequences if the truth were to be exposed! The enemy can deceive people by convincing them that they'll never be caught! "For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hidden, that shall not be known." Luke 12:2.

What the enemy doesn't want you to know is, "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good." Proverbs 15:3. God sees all, and the Bible says, "thou desirest truth in the inward parts!" God extends His grace when you are honest, and there's no reason to operate in fear when the Lord has said He will not condemn you. "There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." When you seal a letter with the proper address on the outside of the envelope, what's inside will be delivered.

You are connected or enveloped by the love of Christ and His forgiveness and have been sealed with the Spirit of promise. "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise," Ephesians 1:13. The devil is the father of lies, and when a person lies, it derives from the enemy himself. Like a good pesticide, the Holy Spirit can eradicate all deceit out of us by the power of God's Word! Praise God! There's no reason to fear, and therefore, there's no reason to lie. Jesus says, "All authority is given unto me in heaven and in earth," Matthew 28:18. What are your thoughts?
