When You Honor a Person it's Important to Remember That They Are Only a Vessel

We honor a person but all glory goes to God

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 1Chronicles 16:25

" And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." Luke 10:18.

Honor: October 28, 2022, By Dr. George Bing

Recently at my Pastoral Anniversary, I was given honor by our Keynote speaker during his Sermon. I am honored to receive honor from anyone, but never forget who you are and whose you are. “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever. Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth in you, and shall be in you!” John 14:16-17. It is the Christ in a person who we really honor.

We respect people in their positions, and we honor the office, but all glory goes to God. Every good gift whether it be physical, or an encouraging word comes from the Lord. We are simply vessels He uses! “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”John 15:5.Whenever you receive honor you should always direct it to the Lord. Whenever people want to pin flowers on you; give God the glory. Remember in Acts 12 when the people were saying” It is of a god, and not of a man.” referring to King Herod. He was accepting the glory that only God is supposed to always receive!

“And upon a set day Herod arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not a man. ”Acts 12:21-22. Whenever you are tempted to receive the honor as your own; remember the Spirit of God is the supplier of the good we are being honored for.” “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord of Host.” Zechariah 4:6.
