We Are Indebted to Honor Our Word

Your word should be vital to keep

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 1Chronicles 16:25

For the entire month of June, the Powerzone Ministries' daily devotionals will focus on The Truth. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Does the truth set you free or make you free? Learn the difference by following and reading this month's devotionals.

Solomon also says “As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, So is a wise reprove upon an obedient ear.” Proverbs 25:12

Have you ever told someone that I’ll call you right back, and then forgot to do it? Perhaps you were bored with the conversation or you recognized that a potential conflict was on the verge of happening, and so you ended the call. You might have received an important call while on another call and ended the initial call and never called the person. At times there is intent to return a call and sometimes it is purposely not returned. Regardless of the scenario, the truth be told is that if you said that you were going to call them back within a certain time and did not you have lied. This is a subject that for different reasons people do not look at it the same way.

The Wise writer King Solomon says “Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither says thou before the angel, that it was an error” Ecclesiastes 5:5-6. We automatically will assume that the writer is speaking about paying a debt and that is accurate, but aren’t we indebted to honor our word? Your word should be vital to keep. People will lose confidence in us honoring what we say we are going to do; when we do not follow through with it. Truth be told there have been incidents such as a person ending their life because of a simple phone call that was not returned promptly.

Solomon also says “As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, So is a wise reprove upon an obedient ear.” Proverbs 25:12. In other words God could have used you to render wise advice to a person that was willing to listen, but you never called at the time designated. The wise writer adds that it is more valuable than gold rings and jewelry made of fine to give a word to someone in need who will receive it promptly. “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Philippians 2:3. What are your thoughts?
