“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

In today's Daily Devotional, we will discuss the importance of waking up to your calling. It has been thirty-two years since I preached my Trial Sermon on this very day. It was a Sunday evening, and my mother flew up to New York to hear it in person. I had the privilege of having seven very special people in attendance that night. Regardless of the length of the service, it will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the only time my mother was able to be there in person. The text I preached on was "The Proper Steps to True Holiness (Do You Believe It)."

I admit to this day that the sermon was entirely too long. The Lord has given me so many revelations and illustrations, and I didn't have the knowledge to realize that everything He gives us is not necessarily meant for that very moment. Life, generally speaking, is that way because God has a specific time for each of us to use the gifts He has placed in us. The wise writer, King Solomon, says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

God is sovereign (has control) and we need to trust His guidance in everything that we do. This is particularly important when it comes to our calling. Each person has a unique calling on their life, and it is crucial to discover what your ministry is. While we often associate calling with preaching, it is important to note that not everyone is called to be an orator. Everyone is called to minister, but the specific ways in which we do so may vary.

A minister is defined as someone who serves, and once you accept Jesus as Lord, you should have a desire to fulfill your purpose in life. This is a wake-up call for all believers in Jesus Christ. Just before ascending to heaven, Jesus directly told His disciples, "“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). What are your thoughts?
