On today's Daily Devotional, we will be discussing the subject of waking up from living a life of selfish -ambition. When a person is truly asleep, they are not conscious of what is going on around them or in life in general. When you are sick to the point that a cardiologist advises you that your heart is failing and you need surgery, there is some cutting that must go on. The Bible says, "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26).
The heart of flesh is one that God is able to apply His Word to, allowing it to penetrate and flow throughout our inner being. Just as in a surgical procedure, the key is our willingness to submit ourselves to the surgeon and allow the anesthesiologist to put us under. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the anesthesiologist puts us in a state where we are not conscious of what is about to take place internally. The Bible says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
The Word does the work on the inside of us and cuts out things that are contrary to God’s characteristics. We were all born with an Adamic nature which is a selfish nature. There are things that we may want to do in this world, but when you truly trust the anesthesiologist (Holy Spirit) to put you under; the surgeon Dr. Jesus will cut out selfish ambitions and anything that will keep you from being whole. The wonderful thing about the Lord that you must love is you will literally fall in love with His will for your life. “Delight thyself also in the LORD; And He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalm 37:4.
