Today, we will continue our discussion on yesterday's Daily Devotional as we unveil my daddy's awakening experience. I had been raised in the AME Church from a toddler, I believe, pretty much. Up until my early adult years, I continued attending the church that I was raised in, Macedonia AME. During my late teens and early twenties, I had cars for a while, but eventually, different things happened, and it came to a point where I would have to borrow my dad's car when it was available to go to church. The Apostle Paul says “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” (Philippians 4:11).
The Apostle Paul emphasized that he did not complain about his circumstances but instead found satisfaction regardless of the conditions he faced. This lesson applies to us as believers, urging us not to complain. Reflecting on this, I realize that if I had complained about not having a car and relying on my dad's, he may not have joined me at church. Surprisingly, my daddy, a man of few words even stood up when Bishop Norris acknowledged the visitors that Sunday.
He told the Church, if I may paraphrase, he was curious because of my unwavering commitment to attending church every week, regardless of the weather or lack of transportation. It was a turning point for him, similar to the Apostle Paul's experience on the road to Damascus. From that moment, my dad had his wake-up call, and he began to see things from a new perspective. It was as if scales fell from his eyes, and his entire life started to change. "And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized” (Acts 9:18). What are your thoughts?
