Today's devotional is dedicated to my Godfather, Deacon Earnest Green. When my natural father passed away twenty-three years ago, I was devastated. My father meant the world to me, as he selflessly devoted his time, treasures, and talents to ensure that I had a prosperous life, even into adulthood. In the midst of my sorrow, Deacon Green offered me comfort by saying, "I'll be your daddy," and he truly lived up to those words. He came as close as anyone in this world to filling my daddy's large shoes.

Deacon Earnest Green played a significant role in helping me to wake up to a more mature spiritual lifestyle through the example of his own life. His impact was not only evident in his actions but also in the way he lived. Pop had hands that seemed larger than life, but I believe his heart was even bigger. The Bible teaches us in Matthew 5:8, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." This verse speaks of the favor that comes upon those whose hearts align with God's will. When our hearts are pure and in harmony with Him, we can expect to experience God's active favor in our lives.

Deacon Green possessed the gift of carpentry, much like his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He not only constructed physical houses for people with exceptional skill but more importantly, he also aided those whose spiritual houses (their physical bodies) lacked the joy of the Lord, helping them find rejuvenation. Observing his fervent devotion to God during worship services had the power to awaken anyone who was spiritually slumbering. Almost every Sunday, Deacon Green would remind us, "Love your enemies and bless those who curse you, for you cannot do that on your own."

Despite not always receiving the love and respect he deserved, Deacon Green remained unwavering in his treatment of others. He treated everyone the same and displayed the true character of a Man of God. His legacy will continue forever. The legacy of our faith in Christ surpasses what the world can offer in terms of material wealth. As Proverbs 13:22 states, "A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just." What are your thoughts?
