Today's Daily Devotional is dedicated to my Godfather, Deacon Jack Jones. This remarkable man played a significant role in helping me Wake up to manhood in a greater mature manner. Jack was always there to assist and teach me essential skills such as repairing, restoring, and replacing things. When my natural father Elmore Bing Sr. transpired from labor to reward I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I had made up my mind that I could not eulogize my dad.

On this day three years ago my Godfather Deacon Jack Jones transpired to his eternal destination to be with the God that he loved and served for many years here. The Bible says “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13).

Yes, I was given the opportunity to eulogize my dear Godfather Jack, but there was more to this than maturing with the holy boldness to do it. It was the life that he demonstrated before so many people that was even more of an eye-opener for me. There were many of the members of his Church who were in attendance who spoke very highly of him. That was impressive, but I was more impacted by another group of people who spoke about Jack that day.

His immediate family expressed their love for Jack and spoke about the wonderful man he was. Again, this was more impressive because no one knows you on a more intimate basis than your family. But what I found to be even more intriguing was the number of his co-workers who were present and spoke so highly of his character.

There were co-workers and colleagues representing Sears and Home Depot. The co-workers from Home Depot wore the uniforms that they worked in alongside their friend Deacon Jack Jones. When you display the character of Christ and people are willing to come out to your Celebration of Life Service; that should be a great wake-up call that every Believer should have that kind of relationship from inside the Church and out. “For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 3:13).
