"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36).

In today's Daily Devotional, we will explore the power of gratitude and the importance of awakening to its realization. I recently had a conversation with a dear friend who is the same age as me. During our discussion, I shared with him some suggestions for personal growth as we age. It is worth noting that my friend is Jewish, and those familiar with God's Word understand that the children of Israel are considered God's chosen people. They have been promised financial blessings within their family realm. However, all of us must remember the words of Jesus, regardless of financial status: "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36).

Money and possessions cannot provide the joy everyone seeks in life. If you have reached your teenage years, you are blessed! If you have been fortunate to live for 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, or more years, you are blessed. Simply having life is a blessing, and we should use our tongues as instruments to thank God for the time He has granted us here. The Bible states, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years" (Psalm 90:10).

Moses is conveying that, in general, the average life expectancy in this world is seventy years, and if you are to maintain good health (take care of yourself) there’s a good chance that you will reach eighty years of age. It is important to recognize that God did not have to grant us any time in this world. We are allowed to build relationships and are privileged to accomplish meaningful things. We must awaken to the fact that we are truly blessed and have been given the gift of everlasting life. As stated in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." What are your thoughts?
