On today's Daily devotional, we will be discussing the subject of waking up with gratitude. Have you ever woken up feeling discouraged, depressed, and filled with despair? When someone greets you with "Good morning," you respond with a question, "What's so good about it?" I believe that almost everyone has experienced those feelings that try to overshadow hope and make you doubt its existence. The wise writer in Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”

I appreciate the latter part of this passage because when the things we hope for become a reality, it brings us great joy. This can only happen when we place our trust in the One who holds all power in His hands. Jesus declares, "All power is given unto me in heaven and earth" (Matthew 28:18).

Your day may not start off as you desire, and you may encounter obstacles that seem to delay your victory or circumstances that are beyond your control. However, during your devotional time, regardless of the surrounding circumstances, the first thing you should do is to express gratitude to the Lord.

The saying "count your blessings" is fitting in this context. When you express gratitude to the Lord, it is important to thank Him for everything that comes to your mind. Thank Him for the ability to breathe on your own. Thank Him for the functioning of your legs and feet, allowing you to walk. Thank Him for the gift of speech through your mouth. Thank Him for providing a roof over your head and a bed to wake up in. Thank Him for your family, church community, friends, and even your enemies. Yes, even your enemies, because they can serve as a reminder to stay humble and reliant on God.

The Bible says “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). The Lord never changes and loves to empower us with gifts. Always remember “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (I Thessalonians 5:18). What are your thoughts?
