In today's Daily devotional, we will be discussing the topic of realizing that everyone's cultural upbringings are different. I used to believe that everyone loved people regardless of their color or culture. I have a vivid memory from my Elementary school years when my classmates and I were assigned a project to express our perception of life. At least, that's how I interpreted it. I recall using blue construction paper to create a circle representing the earth and water. I also used other construction papers to depict the United States, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and other continents as I knew them at that time.

On top of the world, I cut out four images of children of diverse colors standing together, smiling, and holding hands. I made sure to use different colored paper to represent our differences - black, yellow, red, and white. Soon after, integration began, and we were among the first groups of African Americans to be bussed and attend a predominantly white school. This happened in the late sixties, and I developed a deep affection for my JHS 73 in Maspeth, Queens. Those years were some of the best of my life and had a profound impact on me.

In the same way, when we have the right perspective on how life should be and how we should love one another, the upcoming season of your life will likely be some of the best years. It is truly a wonderful experience to learn about cultures different from our own. The goal should be to create a world that resembles a piece of heaven on earth, where there are no divisions based on color or race. We will all be united, so it is crucial to start familiarizing ourselves with diverse cultures.

We should be enthusiastic about learning about the people with whom we will spend the majority of our future. As stated in Revelation 7:9, “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands." This verse reminds us of the beautiful diversity that will exist in the future, and it should inspire us to embrace and learn about different cultures. What are your thoughts on this?
