We will continue our Daily Devotional by discussing the difference between natural fears and universal fears. As we previously advised, there are two types of fear. Our focus today will be on the second kind of fear, which are universal fear. Universal fears are not natural fears but fears that develop either from a bad experience or from something told or shown to you that convinces you it will cause you harm. Under the umbrella of universal fears are diverse groups of phobias that many people suffer from. The Bible says, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (II Timothy 1:7).

Universal fears are believed to be influenced by demonic spirits, which are on assignment to prevent individuals from enjoying an abundant life with the Lord. An example of this is when a person refuses to board a plane due to a fear of flying. However, flying is often the best and fastest way to reach certain parts of the world. This fear is typically caused by what a person has seen or been told, rather than personal negative experiences.

Some individuals may even say, "If God wanted me to fly, he would've given me wings." My response to that is, he has! Delta, American, British, Swiss airlines, do I need to name more? Seriously, some people hear about plane crashes which does happen, but statistically speaking, a person is much more likely to die in an automobile accident than in a plane crash. Therefore, we should not allow the enemy and his minions to prevent us from experiencing other cultural adventures and enjoying the beautiful sights that God has provided for us. Jesus himself said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). What are your thoughts?
