“Woe to you Pharisees You pay tithes of mint, rue, and every herb, but you disregard the justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.” Luke 11:42.

Blessed November 2, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

Unfortunately, some people believe that everything that they possess in this world they have earned and own it. The Bible also says” The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.” Psalms 24:1. When we think of debt I believe for the most part we think about merchants and creditors that we owe. Mortgage payments, rent, and car notes along with credit cards are the main reason that people are in debt today.

The Bible instructs us to “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me saith the LORD of host, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10. The storehouse is the Church, and not another man’s pocket, and when you do that the empowerment comes upon you to receive richly from the Lord.

The question lurking is “is tithing something that we should do today? My response to that question is absolutely! I believe that it is a benefit for those who believe in it. It is a principle that God laid down in His Word that works today. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees saying “Woe to you Pharisees You pay tithes of mint, rue, and every herb, but you disregard the justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.” Luke 11:42.

Jesus was saying here that they should tithe. If you are the owner of something and it breaks down; that makes you responsible for repairing or replacing it. The Landlord of your house is responsible for repairing or replacing things in that house as needed. We just had a hurricane and many roofs needed to be replaced. Ouch! The Bible also says “I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes” Malachi 3:11.

In other words, when you pay the Lord the tithe, He will protect what you now are saying is His, and He will provide what’s needed to repair or replace it. God as the owner of it says you are blessed because He will bear the burden of taking care of what is His because of your obedience in giving Him the tithe. This also should be done before any bills are paid. “Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruit of all thine increase.” Proverbs 3:9. You are indeed blessed. What are your thoughts?
