"There is nothing new under the sun."

Today's daily devotional focuses on the temptation to believe that no one else has experienced or gone through what you have. Have you ever convinced yourself that your experiences were unique and unmatched by anyone else? Perhaps you believed that others may have faced similar situations, but their experiences were not as severe as yours. It's easy to think that others are merely going through something, without truly understanding the depth of your struggles. However, the adage holds, and it is rooted in biblical wisdom: "There is nothing new under the sun." King Solomon expresses this truth by stating, "The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

Indeed, the adage that "history has a way of repeating itself" holds. An example of this can be seen in the movie "Marty," released in the 1950s and starring Ernest Borgnine. In one particular scene, the characters engage in a heated exchange of complaints between a mother and her sister, who is also her aunt in the movie. Their conversation escalates as they describe their respective health issues, almost turning it into a competition to determine whose situation is worse. While this scene may be fictional, it humorously reflects the reality that similar conversations occur in everyday life. People compare their troubles and share their struggles, turning the situation into an unintentional contest of plight.

The enemy seeks to deceive you into believing that your struggles are unique and that no one else can relate to them. "Child, if they only knew." The truth is that many people experience similar challenges, even if they may not openly share them. The Bible reminds us, "yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (II Timothy 3:12). What are your thoughts?
