The Temptation Grieve Excessively

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

For the entire month of August Powerzone ministries will be diving deep into the topic of temptation. What exactly is temptation? We'll be exploring what it means and what the Bible has to say about it all Month long!

The Bible says, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4).

Tomorrow would be my mother's 92nd birthday if she were physically living here today. The next few days, our daily devotionals are dedicated to my mother, Mable Bing Clark. Today, our discussion will be about the temptation to grieve excessively over a loved one who has passed. When we grieve the loss of a loved one, we are dealing with the emotions of life without them, never being the same again. This can be a difficult time for anyone who truly loves someone. The Bible says, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4).

The Lord promises us that He will be there to comfort us, but how long should we mourn? Mourning is how we express the grief that we are experiencing. We should never tell a person how they should grieve, but mourning should never be a lifelong experience. We will have moments when tears may fall, but with the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, He will strengthen you within a short time. You know that you may be experiencing excessive grief when you find yourself mourning for an extended period.

A better way of defining mourning is by taking the emotions that we feel when grieving and expressing them outwardly. An example of this is consistently visiting the cemetery at times outside of the loved one's birthday or anniversary of their death, and this continues for years. Psychological studies show that normal grief lasts anywhere from six months to about two years. Because grief is technically the thoughts and feelings we experience after a loss, the enemy will continually attack your mind during the mourning season to keep you in a depressed state. Only Jesus can give us perfect peace during trying times like these. The Scripture says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3). What are your thoughts?
