Joy January 1, 2023 By Dr. George Bing

Today is the first day of a brand new year. People will make New Year’s resolutions as the excitement of the New Year begins to unfold. A lot of people I believe are sincere when making resolutions and have hope that the year set before them is going to be a great year! A year that major changes for the better will manifest in life! People generally speaking at least initially have a mindset to keep their word and honor their decision to not return to their old ways, methods, or habits. The reason being is because that lifestyle or at least a part of it did not maintain joy. I venture to say that there was some misery that was ever present during a good part of the last year, and no one in their right frame of mind wants to remain miserable.

Everything in the world is temporary and so in life, we all are destined to lose something or certainly someone who is dear to us. Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. This is one of the main reasons why we need Jesus Christ to reside in our hearts. The Lord is Love and with that Love living in us brings joy. The Bible says“ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such, there is no law.” These attributes are the characteristics of Jesus Christ that are planted in our hearts in seed form when we accept Him into our hearts. Immediately listed after love you see joy following it.

When Love is ever present in your life it brings the joy of having that Love with you. That Love will comfort, care, and carry you through any adversity that we face in this world. This is where we get our strength from when others that do not truly know the Lord will fall apart. Rather you keep a New Year’s resolution or not: “The joy of knowing that He will pick you up if you do falter gives us joy that “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13. “for the joy of the LORD is your strength!” Nehemiah 8:10. What are your thoughts?
