Yesterday our Daily Devotional subject was about the office of a bishop. We will continue discussing this highest of ecclesiastical offices. It is important to enlighten everyone on the truth about office of Bishop. The Bible says “This is a true saying, if a man desires the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.” I Timothy 3:1. In other words, if a person wants to be a leader of leaders he is looking to do something special. But the Apostle Paul adds; there are certain qualifications that this Pastor should have. To be a good leader you have to have been a good follower. The Apostle Paul says “not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous.” I Timothy 3:3.

Yes, a bishop should not be indulging in drinking any alcoholic beverages. One of the reasons why is that when a person is drunk they fall under the influence of alcohol, and a lot of times people under the influence become violent. Being a brawler or someone prone to be violent is using carnal weapons. The wise writer King Solomon says “Make no friendship with an angry man; And with a furious man thou shalt not go; Lest thou learn his ways, And get a snare to thy soul.” Proverbs 22:24-25. A leader over multiple ministries with this kind of temperament can spread like wildfire to people under their tutelage. These are cultic attributes and a Bishop is the megaphone voice in the organization and has a lot of influence over people who look to them for guidance. They are not to love money because it will cause them to try and gain it using the wrong methods and for their own gain.

If a Bishop truly love the Lord they will not fall into these kind of traps and temptations. The Bishop should be apt to teach, but if they do not sincerely love the Lord they use the Bible and give people enough Truth to draw them to the ministry. Unfortunately, if they point people to themselves rather than Christ this is the beginning stages of a cultic assembly. The Apostle Paul says “Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” The Apostle Paul is not only warning a young Bishop by the name of Timothy, but all of us to be aware of false leaders. He adds “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” I Corinthians 11:1.The Truth! What are your thoughts?
