Jeremiah 8:22 says, "Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?"

Today we will be concluding our discussion on the ten most prevalent phobias. One of these phobias is Trypanophobia, which is the fear of needles. I recall a dear friend, who went home to be with the Lord 14 years ago and also happened to share this fear. We served as officers together, and it was no secret that he dreaded the sight of a needle. Even today, someone close to me has made significant progress in overcoming the fear of needles. The fear of getting Covid certainly, was a help in toughing up their nerves to allow medical professionals to inject the vaccine that would combat the virus. Aldo, a brave individual in his professional life, feared nothing on two feet but would experience intense panic at the mere thought of a needle piercing his skin. A fear of needles forces the human mind to carefully weigh the benefits and consequences of using them. When we are ill, needles can heal us or prevent us from suffering the adverse effects of a virus.

The wisdom and skill bestowed upon medical physicians and their dedicated staff by God is truly a blessing. Throughout the Bible, we find references to various plants with medicinal properties. These include figs, hyssop, mandrakes, nard, and the balm in Gilead. Jeremiah 8:22 says, "Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?" This verse reminds us of the importance of seeking both physical and spiritual healing. The use of medicinal plants and the expertise of physicians can enhance our physical well-being, but the greatest form of healing is spiritual. Jesus has the power to heal our wounds and make us whole in every aspect of our being.

The next common phobia is Thanatophobia, which is the fear of death. When considering the end of life, many people experience fear. However, it is often rooted in a lack of hope in Christ. Without the assurance of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, one can indeed feel miserable and uncertain about what lies beyond. When a believer passes on this side we simply just fall asleep. The Apostle Paul says “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept" (I Corinthians 15:19-20). Hallelujah! What are your thoughts?
