“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

In today's Daily devotional, we are giving thanks to those who lost their lives while standing up for noble causes. The Bible recounts numerous martyrs, and it's worth noting that the first martyr mentioned is Stephen. Stephen, who served as the first Deacon in the Church, later became an evangelist.

Martyrs are individuals who are killed due to their religious beliefs or their commitment to a positive cause. Among them, we also remember the Apostle Paul and the Apostle Peter, who, according to tradition, was crucified upside down. Additionally, the Apostle James, brother of John, holds the distinction of being the first disciple of Christ to become a martyr. Lastly, the Apostle John, despite surviving an attempted execution by being thrown into boiling oil, was eventually exiled to the island of Patmos.

It is believed that all of Jesus' Disciples were martyred with the exception of Judas Iscariot who hung himself. Sadly there have been people who were taught to believe that killing innocent people (911 World Trade Center) by flying planes into buildings and willing to sacrifice their own lives was for a good cause.

Today exactly 60 years ago one of the very best Presidents the United States has ever had was assassinated while traveling in a vehicle waving to crowds of people in Dallas Texas. It should sadden us each time we see the recording of it or just even think about it. He was murdered because he took a stand for civil rights (Equality) for all people and someone didn’t like that.

Today we give thanks to President Kennedy and others who lost their lives because they stood for something good and right. It’s been said that “if you don’t stand for something; then you’re falling for anything.” The greatest sacrifice that the world should be giving thanksgiving for is Jesus Christ's ultimate sacrifice for us. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). What are your thoughts?
