Thanksgiving Day

Thankful for Family, Food, Fun & Football!

In this special edition daily devotional, we invite you to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving and cultivate a heart overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord.

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

On today’s Daily Devotional, we will be discussing Thanksgiving Day! Over the years in sharing the Daily devotionals I have shared my personal preference when it comes to my favorite month. October is my favorite month of the year for more than several reasons. I was born in October. I was ordained to be an Elder twice in October. I received my Doctorate in October and I can go on and on seriously with the wonderful accomplishments achieved in October. And yes October is Pastor’s Appreciation Month and the month I preached my Trial Sermon.

I certainly give thanks to the Lord for so many wonderful things that occurred in my life in October. I said that to say that November is probably my next favorite month of the year. Thanksgiving will always be special to me personally because it’s the day I asked my wife to marry me, and she said yes! We in Florida are grateful to the Lord for blessing us with much cooler weather in November than what we have endured, especially this past summer. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Thanksgiving Day brings family together with no agenda but to fellowship and share food. Families have fun together and then of course there is football to enjoy for a good part of the day. Yes, God created sports for us who love them to enjoy. Even in the Biblical days they were able to enjoy sports and obtained a prize.

But praise God for all that He has given us; but only what you do for Christ will last! The Apostle Paul says “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible” (1 Corinthians 9:24-25). What are your thoughts?
