Thanking the Lord for Another Day

This is the day which the LORD hath made.

In this special edition daily devotional, we invite you to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving and cultivate a heart overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord.

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalms 118:24).

In today’s daily devotional, we will be thanking the Lord for another day. Most of you may not know that I am a singer-songwriter. Some of the lyrics to one of my most recent songs are “He woke me up early this morning; I’m talking about the God that I serve, I realize that I’m truly blessed y’all. With many things I don’t deserve.” Those as nearly all of my lyrics are true from my heart.

If you’re reading this you are blessed. You have your life, health, and strength then you are blessed and we all should thank the Lord for another day that He has allowed us to see. It’s another day to try to do things better than yesterday. The songwriter said “Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus, and tomorrow may never be mine. Lord help me today, show me the way. One day at a time.”

This day was not promised to us and so if you are alive on this side today you ought to say thank you, Lord Jesus. The Bible says “This is the day which the LORD hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalms 118:24).

I venture to say that this is one of the most misquoted passages in scripture because generally speaking people tend to think mostly of themselves when quoting it. “I will rejoice is not correct because we should be rejoicing with others in mind and that’s one of the reasons why the Psalmist says “We!”

I recently received some very disturbing news as I went by a repair shop to inquire about an older couple that were former owners of the establishment. The young man who took over ownership was very close with them and I wanted to check on their health as both had been dealing with serious health issues forcing retirement.

Upon arriving there I requested to see the young man whose name is Greg. The other young men working there advised me that Greg had been killed in a motorcycle accident about a month ago. This young man was probably in his thirties and was healthy and intelligent. He was coming to visit our church and never got there.

What am I saying? Let’s pray for Greg’s family and others whose paths we cross in this world; as we never know when it may be the last time that we see one another on this side. Thank the Lord for another day! The Apostle Paul says “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being” Acts 17:28. What are your thoughts?
