Should you Ever go Toe to Toe With your Parents?

God wants us to be content with whatever He's blessed us with, sometimes it won't be an easy task.

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 1Chronicles 16:25

For the entire month of October, the Powerzone Ministries daily devotionals will focus on the topic of #honor. What does it mean and how can you show honor to the people in your life? Stay connected to learn more.

"Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with a promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-2

Honor: October 7, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

Some people have been raised by a single parent, and that's all they've ever known. The mother literally wears two hats because there's no dad in the house. There are also households where the mother is not present because she chose not to rear her children. The dad is given the awesome responsibility of rearing his kids.” When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” Psalms 27:10.

The Holy Bible says, "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." Psalms 146:3. People even parents will fail you rather intentionally or not. Yes, parents are human and are subject to error. A parent can be in the house and yet forsake you. Just because a person is physically living in the house; if they're non-supportive to you, they've forsaken you! “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He have said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5.

God wants us to be content with whatever He's blessed us with! Even if your parents be it mom or dad weren't there; they could've thrown you away. With regard to your father, no one could be your father, but your natural father. You honor your parents by showing them respect, even after you're no longer living under their roof. We are supposed to talk to them with respect even after we're grown ourselves. Why, because they're your parents and that's what the Holy Bible instructs us to do. You will not read that if they're bad parents, you don't have to honor them. You will not read that if they weren't in the household or didn't raise you; it justifies a lack of respect.

We should NEVER go toe to toe with our parents because that is dishonor, and you are risking shortening your days! Do you desire long days? Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with a promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-2.
