“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

In today's daily devotional, we will be discussing the greatest name, Jesus Christ, and His power to heal the brokenhearted. A person with a broken or contrite heart is experiencing godly sorrow over their sins. This person has a willingness to repent for sins committed in their life. The Apostle Paul says, ”For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death” (II Corinthians 7:10). In other words, the Lord can use the sadness you feel when you commit sins to draw you to Him with a heart now open to repentance.

To repent means to come into agreement with God about the sin that you have committed. Sometimes in life, including myself, we justify sin because it doesn't appear to be causing anyone harm. However, the chances of sin not hurting anyone are zero, and most importantly, it hurts the Lord. The Bible says, "And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:6).

Only Jesus has the power to forgive us of our sins, and when we receive that forgiveness, the healing process has already begun. Not only does the Lord grant us forgiveness, but He also empowers us with the ability and will to forgive others who have sinned against us. Isn't it wonderful to know that the Lord is with you when you have truly repented? The psalmist of Israel and the great King David says, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18). What are your thoughts?
