Music in Expressing Thanksgiving

Express our gratitude to the Lord through loud and vibrant music.

In this special edition daily devotional, we invite you to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving and cultivate a heart overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord.

The Apostle Paul affirms this in I Timothy 4:4-5, stating “For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

In today's Daily devotional, we will continue our discussion on the significance of expressing gratitude to the Lord through the use of musical instruments. In our previous devotional, we established the purpose behind offering thanksgiving to the Lord with instruments, and we specifically mentioned the instruments mentioned in the Word of God. It is important to reiterate that everything God has created, including all instruments, is good. The Apostle Paul affirms this in I Timothy 4:4-5, stating “For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

Indeed, everything that God has made is good and should be received with a prayer of thanksgiving. Instruments are utilized in various aspects of life, and music is often used to create a specific atmosphere in different places and situations. However, above all, instruments should be employed in praising the Lord and expressing a spirit of thanksgiving. As the psalmist of Israel and the great King David continues his list of instruments used to uplift the Lord, he includes the stringed instruments and organs (Psalm 150:4b), as we discussed yesterday.

Many established Ministries utilize keyboards, organs, or both in their worship. The psalmist further emphasizes the use of cymbals in praising the Lord, stating "Praise Him with the loud cymbals, praise Him with the high sounding cymbals" (Psalm 150:5). This verse encourages us not only to praise Him with cymbals but also to do so with loud and resounding ones. It signifies that we can express our gratitude to the Lord through loud and vibrant music.

The psalmist of Israel, King David, played a significant role in appointing the Levites to play instruments in the House of God. In fact, David himself made instruments for this purpose. As mentioned in I Chronicles 23:5, David appointed four thousand Levites to praise the Lord with the instruments he had made. This highlights David's dedication to using music as a means of praising and worshiping the Lord. It is a testament to the importance of music in expressing thanksgiving to God.
