Lying to the Holy Ghost

There are serious consequences for not telling the truth

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 1Chronicles 16:25

For the entire month of June, the Powerzone Ministries' daily devotionals will focus on The Truth. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Does the truth set you free or make you free? Learn the difference by following and reading this month's devotionals.

“Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.” Acts 5:9

Many people in the world want to be recognized for doing something good. We may visit those that are sick and institutionalized. This includes going to the hospitals and convalescent homes as well as a person’s residence. We may serve on committees in a Ministry or hold a prestigious position at our various places of employment. We may volunteer to help the elderly at different nonprofit organizations such as the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. It’s nice to be recognized, but there is a good chance that man may not recognize what you contribute that’s good to help others. There’s a story in the Bible about a couple that wanted to be recognized for doing a good deed in the Church to help advance the Kingdom of God. The Bible says “But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the Apostles feet.” Acts 5:1-2.

This couple had spoken to the Apostle Peter advising that they had sold their personal property and donated the money to the Church. They knew that it would be assumed that they had donated the full amount of their profit from selling their property to the Church. What they did not realize is that when they thought that they were speaking to a mere man; they were speaking to Holy Ghost, and they lied to Him! “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Acts 5:3.

We should always be truthful and especially when dealing with the Man of God and the House of God. You could be refusing to be truthful to the Holy Ghost. Sapphira was even given a second chance to repent, but she refused and both of them died instantly AFTER being dishonest. There are serious consequences for not telling the truth. “Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.” Acts 5:9. What are your thoughts?
