Love December 9, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

Love is an action word, and there are four different loves in the Bible. The four loves are Eros, which is the love that a Man has for a Woman in marriage, and it is expressed physically. The next is phileo which derives from Philadelphia which is the city of brotherly love. It's the love we have for a friend which we express with affection.” Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another” Romans. 12:10.

This is also used when talking about the third love which is Storge love which is the love God placed in our DNA for our family. This is why it seems to affect us deeper when a family is behind the hurt that we may absorb in this world. The last love is the one that most people think of when the subject of love is mentioned. That's the Agape love which is the Divine Love of God. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13.

Eros love is expressed between a husband and wife and it is the most intimate that you can be with another human being. The touching between one another doesn't necessarily mean lovemaking. It's the things that you share with your spouse that no one else should know. You're one and we should never be more personal with anyone else other than God Himself. The downside to this love like the others outside of Agape is that independent of God, there's a tendency to operate in this love, only if you are receiving the same from your spouse.” For love is strong as death; Jealousy is cruel as the grave: The coals thereof are coals of fire, Which hath a most vehement flame.” Song of Solomon 8:6.
