Jesus Christ Rebuked Demonic Spirits

Demons never have any good intentions.

This December, we're embarking on a special spiritual journey centered around the true reason for the season – our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ! Join us as we delve into daily devotionals dedicated to exploring the life, teachings, and profound love of Jesus.

"And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them" (Luke 4:39).

In today's Daily devotional, we will continue our discussion on the greatest name, Jesus Christ, and His power to heal. In yesterday's Daily devotion and previous devotionals this month, we spoke about how Jesus laid His hands on people, and they were made whole. Jesus Christ, in His uniqueness, also healed people in other ways, as mentioned recently. Yesterday, we touched on an occasion when Jesus healed the Apostle Peter's wife's mother when she had a high fever.

The Bible says that a group of people in the synagogue summoned the Lord to come and heal her. On that particular occasion, He rebuked the demonic spirits that were the cause of her having a very high fever. The Bible says, "And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought Him for her" (Luke 4:38). Sometimes, we have to reach out to Jesus for others when they are under attack from demonic forces.

There may be times in this life when the activity of demonic influences in a person's life is so intense that they may not have the strength or ability to seek the Lord's help. This is why prayer and discernment of the spirit are vital to utilize in our walk with the Lord. Jesus not only has the power, but He also has the authority to rebuke sin and all manner of diseases. In this particular case, He rebuked the demons that were oppressing the Apostle Peter's mother-in-law. To rebuke something or someone means to confront or express disapproval of unwarranted or ungodly behavior.

Demons never have any good intentions, and in this case, they were causing the Apostle Peter's mother-in-law to be ill with a high fever that was threatening her life. Once the Lord has healed us to the point where we have the strength to minister to others, that is exactly what we should do as soon as possible. "And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them" (Luke 4:39). What are your thoughts?
