Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee”. Exodus 20:12.

Honor: October 3

Some people have been raised by a single parent, and that's all they've ever known. Mother literally wears two hats because there's no dad in the house. There are also households where the mother is not present and chose not to rear her children. Children are being raised by their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and even in some cases by their siblings. Unfortunate circumstances could play a part in the hand dealt in life, in the absence of parents!

“When my Father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up!” Psalms 27:10. The Lord knew that at some point our parents would forsake us one way or the other. When a person is living with you or you see them on a regular basis; they have not left you physically. The Holy Bible reads" Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Psalms 146:3.

People including parents will fail you; rather intentional or not. Parents are human and are subject to error. Also, a parent can be in the home and still forsake you. Just because a person is physically there; if they're non-supportive, they've forsaken you! "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" Hebrews 13:5. God wants us to be content with whatever He has blessed us with. Even if your parents be it mom or dad weren't in the house, it's important to realize that they gave you life. They could have thrown you away. As far as a father; no one could be your dad, but your natural father. I've heard people say to a child that wasn't theirs;" I could've been your father!" That statement has scientifically been proven to be impossible!

You honor your parents by showing them respect; even after you're not living under their roof! We're supposed to talk to them and treat them with respect. Even if you're now an adult; you should always revere them as such! ”Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee”. Exodus 20:12. What are your thoughts?
