“ Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” 1 Timothy 5:17

Honor: October 20, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

A Pastor has the most important responsibility of any person in authority in the world. Yes, more important than the President. The reason that I stand on this fact is that a person's soul should be our primary concern. Your soul is what is going to live for eternity. The Pastor and not the President is responsible for the condition of your soul. ”Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a glory that fadeth not away.” I Peter 5: 2-4.

This is a position that I believe God specifically calls a person to. It is not an office that any man should appoint unless the person has received a vision from God. A good Pastor will spend countless hours in the Word and before God in prayer for the people. A good Under Shepherd will always acknowledge God as the Chief Shepherd of your soul. You never heard Moses say that the people the Lord gave him as their Under Shepherd were his people! You are God's people and not the Pastors. ”Know ye that the Lord He is God: It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people, and the sheep of His pasture.” Psalms 100:3

If a Pastor's primary concern is the condition of your soul, they deserve to be honored. If you are being fed the unadulterated Word of God by your Pastor, they deserve to be honored. If your Pastor encourages you to cast all of your cares upon the Lord, and not him, he deserves your honor. The Bible says" Let the Elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the Word and doctrine" I Tim 5:17. What are your thoughts?
