Have You Ever Lost Someone Who You Were Very Close To?

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 1Chronicles 16:25

For the entire month of February, the Powerzone Ministries' daily devotionals will focus on the topic of #HOPE. The Bible says "hope deferred maketh the heart sick." What does that mean? The world oftentimes speaks of hope as wishful thinking, is this the same hope the bible teaches? Stay connected to learn more.

"Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is the tree of life." Proverbs 13:12

Hope February 19, 2023 By Dr. George Bing

Have you ever lost someone who you were very close to? A newborn baby growing up in this world usually develops a bond with their natural mother. During their adolescent year relationships have already developed with others present in the child's life. Do you realize that nearly every person that we knew growing up was alive when we were babies? The sting of death would eventually bite close to home. The Bible says “the days of our years are threescore years and ten; And if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, Yet is their strength labour and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” Psalm 90:10.

This is a postulate or a general truth. We live in a fallen world and life can and will at times be cut short. When you experience the loss of a loved one for the first time, it's almost always devastating. It is especially difficult when no one around you demonstrates hope. If they're angry, raging, and frustrated; that creates a spirit of depression. Do you realize that the enemy uses times like these to attack people with all kinds of temptations? This is a primary time of vulnerability, and the enemy and his staff know what devices to use. The devil will even deceive people into blaming God for a loss. He also convinces people that they simply cannot live without that person! Do you realize that the only hope that an atheist has is that there is no God!? When you're dead you're gone. I know that my redeemer liveth." That's the hope that we have.

In the words of a renowned preacher on his way home after burying his wife. Trying to find words to comfort his children who were inquiring about their mother's death. Where is mom they asked. Suddenly, a truck passed the car they were traveling in casting a shadow over it. Dr. Barnhouse posed a question: would you have rather been hit by that truck or the shadow of it? Obviously, they said the shadow. Well, that's how death is for a Believer in Jesus Christ! You don't receive the sting. but only the shadow. Do you have that hope today? Praise God for Jesus who took the sting out of death. "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is the tree of life." Proverbs 13:12 What are your thoughts?
