“Hereby perceive we the love of God, who laid down His life for us: we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." 1 John 3:16

Love December 6, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

If you were sinking in quicksand, the more you tried to save yourself, the quicker you would sink. That is a time that you need someone else to pull you out. You need someone who has the expertise in delivering you. The ability to save you by risking their own lives to do it. “But God commendeth His Love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Roman 5:8.

God demonstrated what Love is by creating a body of flesh for His Son to walk in here on earth. Jesus was the perfect example of what Love is and what Love does! Too many leaders say "do as I say, and not as I do." But Jesus can truly say, do as I say and as I do. Jesus, Himself said, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” I Peter 1:16. Our love for one another should be to that degree. We should be willing to lay our lives down for others, especially if that person was lost. The Bible says" esteem others better than yourselves."

I read a story years ago about a little boy who agreed to give his sister a blood transfusion to save her life. The intriguing thing about this true story is that the boy who was only 5 years old thought that he would have to die in her place, and was willing to do it! After the transfusion, this little boy looked at his sister smiling and then looked sadly at the doctor and inquired when was he going to die. What better way than to do as Jesus did, by sacrificing your own life for someone else's? “Hereby perceive we the love of God, who laid down His life for us: we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." 1 John 3:16. What are your thoughts?
