“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Honor: October 4, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

Many of us were blessed with wonderful parents as I was, and they since have passed on to be with Jesus. We honored them when we had the opportunity here on earth. The Bible does not say that once they die that we should stop honoring them. We still should honor their memories. “Honor thy father and mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12.

But how do you honor a parent or guardian when they have passed away? ” Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 19:19. You see others with the opportunity to honor their parents, and they seem to take them for granted. One of the meanings of the word bless in the Old Testament is to speak highly of! Also, remember that to honor means to revere or to hold in high esteem!” Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, do not bear false witness, Honor the father and thy mother.” Luke 18:20

Though your parents may be with the Lord now, you still can honor them. You have wonderful memories and it's therapeutic for you to speak about them EVERY opportunity that you have. You should always speak highly of them even though they weren't perfect people. No one but Jesus was and still is. The most wonderful person that you and I have been privileged to know or read about was or is not perfect. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23. When you share your precious memories of your parents; you should highlight their accomplishments in this world, and do it with joy! ”A man hath joy by the answer of mouth: And a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” Proverbs 15:23.
