“Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord." Leviticus 19:32

Honor: October 12, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

The elderly are a blessing to all of us in this world. We see them in our neighborhoods, and many other places such as marketplaces, doctors’ offices, and Churches. Some of us may be blessed to live with an elder statesman or stateswoman. We've discussed the fact that they have more experience and wisdom than we do generally speaking. So the question posed today is how can we honor them?

When they desire to share their stories with us it is an opportunity to learn about life and give it at the same time. The elderly need to be needed and you know what; they are needed. You should always appreciate any wisdom that they're willing to share with you. If you see them walking toward a door it only takes a few seconds to hold the door open for them. By the way, it doesn't matter if they thank you or not, it's about honoring them! If they're standing and you have a seat; why not allow them to sit down?

“Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD! Leviticus 19:32. The elderly generally speaking walk at a slower pace than we do, we should be patient with them. They tend to drive slower because their response to things slows down with age. Why not be more patient with them? You know if God blesses you with long life you'll need someone to be patient with you as well.

The golden rule says "As you would that men should do to you, do ye also unto them likewise." Luke 6:31. Every opportunity given to us to honor the elderly is truly a blessing from the Lord. Let's honor them as we don't know how much longer we will be able to.” With the ancient is wisdom; And in length of days understanding.” Job 12:12. What are your thoughts?
