King Solomon says, "As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand" (Ecclesiastes 5:15).

Today’s Daily devotional will be about the subject of hoarding. Hoarding is the act of holding onto possessions out of fear of losing them. Researchers have discovered that this behavior often stems from childhood experiences of loss or a lack of ownership. It is also believed that individuals who hoard may have endured poverty during their formative years, particularly during pre-adolescence and adolescence. Additionally, some hoarders may have experienced the pain of having their belongings taken away or discarded.

King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 5:13-14, "There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand." In other words, people who hoard oftentimes die and the money they have saved is lost and there is no inheritance for their family. Hoarders will literally live like paupers to avoid spending money. People who hoard are committing idolatry.

Remember the parable about the rich man in the Bible who was hoarding fruit and other possessions that he had accumulated over time? The Bible says, "And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?" (Luke 12:16-17). He had accumulated more than he could ever need. He adds, "And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry." But God said unto him, "Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?" (Luke 12:19-20). He thought that he would have it for a rainy day.

Jesus adds, "So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God" (Luke 12:21). The truth be told, everything in this world belongs to the Lord, and we cannot take anything with us once life ends here. Speaking about man, the wise writer King Solomon says, "As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand" (Ecclesiastes 5:15).
