After 6 weeks of training, it was 37 years ago that I began my early career in law enforcement. One of the things that we had to learn was Article 35 of the New York Penal Law. It was a course that under specific circumstances we were taught to use physical force against a person committing a crime to stop them. This also was to be used obviously to defend ourselves if we were being attacked. We also learned that an object such as a telephone receiver could be considered to be a deadly weapon if a person was using it to cause a physical injury to someone. I took this very seriously as knowing the New York Penal codes could potentially save your life and others as well. In the same way, it’s important to know the Truth when dealing with spiritual warfare. The enemy and his minions will attempt to attack you if you are trying to keep them from causing havoc in people’s lives.

We as Believers need to know what the Word of God (Penal Code) says in defending ourselves against the wiles of the devil. The Bible says “for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God; to the pulling down of stronghold;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” II Corinthians 10:4-5. The Truth is our weaponry is spiritual and knowing the Truth of God’s Word and standing on it is more powerful than any physical weaponry that we could have in our arsenal! I had to arrest some people who were bad seeds in society during my tenure in law enforcement, but the binding (arresting) of deceiving spirits in the world is indeed more vital. “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness” Ephesians 6:14.
