"Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy." Matthew 5:7

Blessed November 26, 2022 By Dr. George Bing

Many people tend to combine mercy and grace as the same thing. If you notice that in the 23rd Psalms, the latter clause says" surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and will dwell in the House of the Lord forever." Psalms 23:6. We indeed want mercy with us, but what exactly is mercy? Mercy is you not getting what you deserve, while grace is you getting what you don't deserve. In other words, if you murder someone and you are found guilty in a court of law, you deserve death. In the Old Testament it was an eye for an eye. If your life was spared, that's mercy.

Today, we all deserve death because the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23. We can’t earn it but because the Lord owns everything in this world, and He gave us eternal life as a gift! Blessed means to be empowered to prosper and when you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit you now have received the greatest gift! The Bible also says ”For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

There are many people who are conscious of the mercy that was granted to them. When we are mindful of the mercy that God has granted us, we'll be more inclined to extend it to others. When you expect people to do things exactly the way you do it, and they use a different method; do you get upset about it? That's not mercy. If you are impatient with others, and don't repent right away, that's not mercy. If you are quick to speak and slow to hear when someone makes a mistake, that's not mercy. We all will reap what we sow. ”Be not deceived God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows that also shall he reap.” Galatians 6:7. "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy." Matthew 5:7. What a true saying! What are your thoughts?
