The universal language

In this special edition daily devotional, we invite you to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving and cultivate a heart overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord.

Apostle Paul in Romans 13:1: “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”

In today's Daily devotional, we will be discussing the act of giving thanks to the Lord through the use of musical instruments. As a musician, I am grateful for the beautiful music that the Lord has bestowed upon me to share with the world. Music is often considered the universal language, as it is rare to find someone who does not appreciate some form of music. It has the remarkable ability to influence and change our moods.

This is why, when we dine out at a nice restaurant, there is often soft background music playing in the dining room. In movies, suspenseful scenes are accompanied by specific types of music that are designed to keep the audience on edge. We all recognize the significance of "Here Comes the Bride" being played as the bride walks down the aisle during a wedding ceremony. Unfortunately, there are also instances where music is played during somber moments in life, and in situations of violence, gang members may play loud, aggressive music with profane language that promotes an atmosphere of hostility.

When it comes to worship, our desire is for the Lord to receive the glory for who He is, and we express this through the use of musical instruments that He has created. It is important to acknowledge that the Lord is the creator of all things. Every human creation is ultimately derived from something already established by God. As individuals, we do not possess the ability to create something entirely new, as we are utilizing the materials and resources that God has already provided.

Martin Luther is famously quoted as saying, "Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." However, the specific instruments that are appropriate for praising God will be discussed tomorrow, God willing. As the psalmist declares in Psalm 69:30, “I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving.” What are your thoughts?
