Giving Thanks to the Lord for Getting What You Don’t Deserve

Sing with vigor knowing that you have everlasting life!

In this special edition daily devotional, we invite you to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving and cultivate a heart overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

On today’s Daily Devotional, we will continue our discussion about thanksgiving to the Lord because of His grace. Yesterday we shared a scenario in which I asked you to imagine yourself in the position as the driver who was being pulled over by law enforcement for an apparent traffic infraction. The first time the officer after you repented for speeding cut you some slack by not issuing a citation.

The last scenario places you on your way to the House of God and the sound of a siren alarms you.

You look up in your rearview mirror and see the blue lights flashing directly behind you. The officer steps up to your vehicle bending down at your window requests your license and registration. You ask him why he was pulling you over as you were running late for Church. You add that you were praising the Lord on your way there and didn’t realize how fast you were going, and you apologize for committing the traffic infraction.

You ask the officer to please not issue you a citation. He responds by advising you that not only is he not going to issue you a citation, but he reaches into his wallet pulls out five hundred dollars, and tells you to go enjoy a steak dinner on him. Now which scenario was better and which one would you choose? The last one was grace because you are getting what you don’t deserve.

Now you and I know that no officer would not only not penalize you for breaking the law that you were guilty of, but then give you a large bonus that would make life that much more enjoyable! I feel praise coming on just thinking about that because Jesus did more than that for us. If you are a Believer you should sing with vigor knowing that you have everlasting life! Hallelujah to the Lamb of God. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9). What are your thoughts?
