In this special edition daily devotional, we invite you to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving and cultivate a heart overflowing with gratitude towards the Lord.

As stated in Psalm 98:6, "With trumpets and the sound of the horn, make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King."

In today's Daily devotional, we will continue our discussion on giving thanks to the Lord through the use of musical instruments. Yesterday, we touched upon the universal language of music and its presence in various settings. We also acknowledged that God, as the creator of all things, desires us to glorify Him with the musical instruments He has provided for those gifted to play them. As stated in Psalm 98:6, "With trumpets and the sound of the horn, make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King."

Music is utilized in various aspects of life, and those who are gifted in playing instruments should be prepared and willing to uplift the King of Kings using the instruments He has created. However, the question raised yesterday was regarding the types of instruments that are appropriate for praising Him. Throughout scripture, it is evident that almost every instrument ever created is mentioned in the Word of God. As the psalmist of Israel and the great King David proclaimed in Psalms 150:1, “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: Praise him in the firmament of his power.”

‭‭

It is clear from the verse that we should praise God both in the Church and in the heavens, signifying that we should praise Him everywhere. The Psalmist further emphasizes the reason for praising Him, stating "Praise Him according to His excellent greatness" (Psalm 150:2). Additionally, the Psalmist instructs us to “Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: Praise him with the psaltery and harp” (Psalm 150:3).

A psaltery is indeed believed to be a stringed instrument that was played with the fingers during ancient Biblical times. The Psalmist also encourages us to praise God with the timbrel and dance (Psalm 150:4). It is evident that the Lord desires us to express our thanksgiving and praise through joyful dancing. We will delve further into this topic tomorrow, Lord willing. As stated in Ecclesiastes 3:4, “He sets the time for sorrow and the time for joy, the time for mourning and the time for dancing.” What are your thoughts?
