Everyone has at least one thing that they fear. As we continue our daily devotional discussion today, we will list the ten most well-known phobia behaviors that people battle with. Are you afraid of snakes? When I first moved to Florida, I had a great respect for snakes, and still do today. The difference now is that I actually feared any snake, regardless of the color or type. If it had a mouth and teeth, that meant it would bite you as far as I was concerned. That philosophy was formed out of ignorance about snakes. Yes, there should always be respect for anything that potentially can harm you, but if we approach things with knowledge about them, we will have a proper perspective.

I have learned that black snakes, generally speaking, will not harm you, but we need to be respectful if they have laid eggs. Just like any mother, they will be in a protective mode. You should never show fear, but the best way to kill a snake, I learned, is to crush the head. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15). The man who bruised the serpent's head is Jesus, and though this is spiritual, it educates us on how to beat snakes down when necessary.

This brings us to the subject of Cynophobia, which is the fear of dogs. If you have been bitten or never have been bitten, generally, dogs react to fear. If they smell fear, they will more than likely attack. The same concept applies here as it does to snakes. There are different types, and we should respect but not fear them. Remember that God gave man dominion over every living thing. Dominion means to rule and have power. "And God said, Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth" (Genesis 1:26). What are your thoughts?
