For every beast of the forest is mine, And the cattle upon a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:10)

June 24, 2023 By Dr. George Bing

Today concludes our discussion about the critical subject of tithing. Many people in business follow this principle because they have experienced the wonderful benefits that result from presenting the tithe to the Lord. As we have seen in the Holy Bible, Abraham was blessed when he paid tithes to the King of Salem, Melchizedek. The Lord expresses His concern for His people regarding the tithe by asking, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings" (Malachi 3:8). God is saying that when we refuse to honor Him with the tithe, we are also robbing Him. The truth is that the Lord owns everything in this world. “For every beast of the forest is mine, And the cattle upon a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:10).

The Lord's statement in Malachi 3:10 is the only time in the Bible where He invites us to test the truth. He says, "Bring ye all of the tithes into the storehouse, that there might be meat in mine house, and prove me now here with, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." I would rather give the first ten percent to God and live on the 90 percent that He has blessed than keep 100 percent that He has cursed. When we present the tithe to the Lord, we acknowledge that everything we have belongs to Him.

Just like a landlord is responsible for repairing what he owns when we refuse to tithe, we are saying that God does not own everything, and we are the landlord. Therefore, we are responsible for repairing what is needed, including our bank accounts, relationships, and more. Let us honor God with our tithes and offerings and experience the blessings that come with obedience to His Word. Do you want the Truth to govern your life? Indeed, it is a privilege to honor God through our tithes and offerings. When we do so, we experience the blessings that come from obeying His Word. Malachi 3:11 says “And I shall rebuke the devoer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.” What are your thoughts?
