In the recent edition of our Daily devotional, we delved into the intriguing topic of innate fears and phobias. We briefly explored two common inherent fears we were born with: the fear of loud noises and falling. Additionally, I opened up about a personal experience involving one of my siblings who endured severe burns during their pre-adolescence. This leads us to ponder a thought-provoking question today: is it possible for an individual to get delivered from a specific phobia they may be battling? The Bible says “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that he hath not” (II Corinthians 8:12). The Apostle Paul addresses the Church of Corinth about the act of giving, but this passage holds relevance to the desire for deliverance from any challenging situation.

For those who may be grappling with phobias like pyrophobia, and the fear of being burned, there is indeed hope for deliverance. One effective approach to overcoming such phobias is through talk therapy. However, it is important to recognize that there is no greater confidant to engage in conversation with than the Lord Himself. God graciously provides individuals in our lives who can offer support and guidance during challenging times, but we should always seek Him first. As the wise writer Solomon stated, "For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7).

The wise writer addresses the concern about what a person maybe thinking compared to what they are saying. However, this passage primarily focuses on the condition of one's heart. Engaging in conversation with someone willing to listen and share their wisdom to aid in overcoming phobias is undeniably wise. As King Solomon wisely advises, "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end" (Proverbs 19:20). It is possible that you have harbored fear towards something for an extended period, but what truly matters is how your thinking evolves. As stated in Ecclesiastes 7:8, "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit." What are your thoughts?
