“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Philippians 2:3.

Honor: October 29, 2022, By Dr. George Bing

We honor our spouses, parents, Pastors, bosses, children, athletes, law enforcement officers, firemen, and first responders. Yet, there's a special group that I always make it my business to give honor to. The people I am referring to are members of the Armed forces! The men and women who serve in the Army, navy, air force, and marines defend the freedoms that we all enjoy in this country. They have placed their lives on the line for us and absolutely deserve our honor. Being drafted or especially enlisting into the armed forces is a choice. The men and women that enlist have made a conscious decision to serve others and be willing to sacrifice their own lives for others. “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Philippians 2:3.

I rarely offer my personal opinion on subjects but in this case, I will say that I do not believe that we do enough for our veterans in our Country. The medical benefits should be better for them and other benefits and discounts on products and even homes and vehicles could certainly be more as well. We should reward these men and women who literally are doing Christ-like service in their willingness to give their lives for us. “This is my Commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13.

When someone identifies themselves as a veteran, we cannot repay them for their service. What we can do is honor them. Pride says,” why should we honor them, this is what they chose to do.” Suppose no one chose to serve in this capacity? When a young man or woman comes home on leave, we should honor them. On every Memorial Day, we should always remember those who laid down their lives for us by honoring them! “ Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. I Peter 2:17.
