In today's Daily Devotional, we will be discussing Jesus, the greatest of all, and his attributes. It is important to first define the significance of the name above all names. While we acknowledge that Jesus' name holds this distinction, we must understand the meaning behind the name Jesus Christ. It is not a conventional first and last name like how we address each other today (e.g., John Doe). "Jesus" signifies Savior, and that is precisely what he is to us. He brought salvation to all who receive Him.

The Bible states, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in His name" (John 1:12). This verse emphasizes that every believer has the privilege to become one of God's children. Additionally, the name "Christ" signifies the Messiah or the anointed One, who possesses all power in His hands. The Messiah is the promised deliverer who came to save His chosen people, starting with the Jewish nation. Jesus Himself affirms, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth" (Matthew 28:18).

Jesus Christ is our redeemer, and He had to endure a horrific death for the salvation of all mankind. By simply receiving Him in our hearts, we can be saved. In our previous discussion, we explored the necessity for the priests in the Old Testament era to offer unblemished animals as sacrifices for sin. It is important to clarify why this was required. The Bible states, "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without the shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22). This verse emphasizes that the shedding of blood was necessary for the forgiveness of sins according to the law.

The passage conveys that almost everything was purified by the shedding of blood, and forgiveness of sin was not possible without the pouring out of blood from a clean vessel. When Jesus' name is mentioned before Christ in a passage, the primary focus is on salvation. On the other hand, when Christ is listed ahead of Jesus, the emphasis is on His role as the Messiah or the anointed One, highlighting the power of deliverance He possesses. For instance, Matthew 1:21, states, "And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins." What are your thoughts?
