A Half-truth is Not the Truth at All

Constructive criticism builds a person up when the truth is revealed to them with no ill intent

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 1Chronicles 16:25

For the entire month of June, the Powerzone Ministries' daily devotionals will focus on The Truth. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Does the truth set you free or make you free? Learn the difference by following and reading this month's devotionals.

The Apostle Paul says “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child: but when I became a man. I put away childish things.” I Corinthians 13:11

There are many ways that people tend to deviate from the truth. Believe it or not, a half-truth is not the truth at all. When I was a child there was a phrased use called “a little white lie” and the key word is lie! A little white lie was a fib that was told usually to spare someone's feelings. It was a way to avoid people becoming hurt because it was believed that the truth could not be handled by the person. The Apostle Paul says “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child: but when I became a man. I put away childish things.” I Corinthians 13:11.

It was considered to be harmless and you were considered to be kind by trying to avoid hurting another person’s feelings especially; with no ill intent. But the scripture advises us that as we grow up and mature, we should learn how to accept constructive criticism. Constructive criticism builds a person up when the truth is revealed to them with no ill intent. The wise writer King Solomon says “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Proverbs 27:6.

In other words, a true friend is only trying to help you when what they convey to you hurts some. When a trained medical assistant or nurse practitioner injects you with a needle carrying medicine; it initially hurts but what they’re placing in you will eventually help you. In the same way, the truth when delivered by someone who the Spirit of God has trained how to do it; will empower those who need to know the truth in God’s perfect timing. I had a dear friend who was an outstanding vocalist. It’s important to utilize the gifts that the Lord has given each of us in the right way. More on this subject tomorrow. “A man’s gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men". Proverbs 18:16. What are your thoughts?
